Vancouver Networking for Tech Job Seekers

Details

What we'll do

Start your week off right with tech job search tips! We will be discussing job search tips in the competitive tech field. Looking at employment trends in Vancouver/Portland along with finding the best ways to network. Resume/Cover Letter tips from experts in the field. Depending on the crowd, bringing in specific employers to discuss job openings and tips.

Are you already in tech, but looking for a new opportunity? Have you been out of tech for a while, but looking at getting back into it? Is tech something you would like to get into, but are overwhelmed with everything that is available? This group will help guide you in the right direction while networking with people in the same situation as yourself. This is an open group where job searching and networking are one in the same. As most of us know, its not always what you know, but who you know. People are always asking me what is the best way to find a job in tech? The response is always the same. I tell them that they need to be out talking to people, networking. As a professional in the industry, I can often find out who is hiring, but that doesn't mean that I can get someone an interview. That often comes with knowing someone or having a killer resume that gets through the ATS systems. This group is going to help you navigate through the process while meeting people that "may know someone" in a company that you want to work for or transition into.

VanCoffee - Tech & Networking Meetup

Details

Designed for tech leaders, but welcome to anyone, this meetup is a birds-of-a-feather discussion group for those who are looking to benefit from the shared experience of Vancouver’s tech community. Why so early? Because when you run a company or manage a team, your free time either happens before employees show up for work or at the end of the day (and the last thing you want to do after a day of meetings is to entertain a group discussion).

Feel free to bring your breakfast and a mug; we will try to bring the coffee, creamer, and sugar.

Second Thursday of every month.

Each month The Bridge hosts an open coffee for local entrepreneurs in the area. It is simply a time to meet other great people doing things just like you. People that have a passion to build a business and create some things that will shape our future.

There is no direct agenda for the meetup. We do take a quick welcome moment to welcome our new guests and sponsors and promote any other events in the region we think would be of interest to our group.

Please come ready to meet others and share about your current project and find out about other people building exciting things in our area.

P.S. The event is open to everyone as a part of our community but, I will caution that sales reps and networking marketers tend to find their conversations short and unproductive. We ask you to respect the purpose is to meet and share, not to sell.

Founders Caffeine Fix

Price: Free

What to bring

(Optional) Business Cards, Resumes, Job Descriptions

VanCoffee - Tech & Networking Meetup

Details

Designed for tech leaders, but welcome to anyone, this meetup is a birds-of-a-feather discussion group for those who are looking to benefit from the shared experience of Vancouver’s tech community. Why so early? Because when you run a company or manage a team, your free time either happens before employees show up for work or at the end of the day (and the last thing you want to do after a day of meetings is to entertain a group discussion).

Feel free to bring your breakfast and a mug; we will try to bring the coffee, creamer, and sugar.

Startup Weekend Vancouver

Your idea in 54 hours

Do you have an idea you'd like to pursue or a problem you'd like to solve but don't know where to start or who to start with?

Techstars Startup Weekend is the place to look for a team, create a prototype of your idea, validate your business idea, and receive feedback from experienced entrepreneurs, all in one weekend.

What do you need to bring?

Lots of energy! You'll pitch your own idea or listen to others, then vote on the most interesting ideas and form teams with diverse skill sets. You can come with friends, but you’ll get the full experience if you participate in separate teams. Remember, it’s all about the team.

Your idea should be something you have not previously worked on. The idea you pitch and the problem you set out to solve can span social, educational, financial, environmental, or other issues. Over the course of the weekend you'll be challenged to create a prototype of your MVP, or minimum viable product, that fits the needs of your target customer. You'll get feedback, iterate, and likely pivot your approach entirely! Important: You cannot have worked previously on your idea.

Techstars Startup Weekend is a full weekend-long experience. Your ticket includes:

  • 7 full (and delicious) meals over the course of the weekend
  • Benefits and discounts from our global partners
  • One-on-one time with amazing mentors
  • A new network of developers, designers, and entrepreneurs eager, like you, to change the world.
  • All the internet and coffee you can consume.

Watch the video below to see what you can expect, and if you’re feeling inspired click on the “Buy Ticket” button now!

Still have questions, feel free to reach us at “vancouverwa@startupweekend.org”.

Don’t wait any longer and join the Techstars Startup Weekend movement!

No talk, all action!
