Vancouver Networking for Tech Job Seekers

Start your week off right with tech job search tips! We will be discussing job search tips in the competitive tech field. Looking at employment trends in Vancouver/Portland along with finding the best ways to network. Resume/Cover Letter tips from experts in the field. Depending on the crowd, bringing in specific employers to discuss job openings and tips.

Are you already in tech, but looking for a new opportunity? Have you been out of tech for a while, but looking at getting back into it? Is tech something you would like to get into, but are overwhelmed with everything that is available? This group will help guide you in the right direction while networking with people in the same situation as yourself. This is an open group where job searching and networking are one in the same. As most of us know, its not always what you know, but who you know. People are always asking me what is the best way to find a job in tech? The response is always the same. I tell them that they need to be out talking to people, networking. As a professional in the industry, I can often find out who is hiring, but that doesn't mean that I can get someone an interview. That often comes with knowing someone or having a killer resume that gets through the ATS systems. This group is going to help you navigate through the process while meeting people that "may know someone" in a company that you want to work for or transition into.

Second Thursday of every month.

Each month The Bridge hosts an open coffee for local entrepreneurs in the area. It is simply a time to meet other great people doing things just like you. People that have a passion to build a business and create some things that will shape our future.

There is no direct agenda for the meetup. We do take a quick welcome moment to welcome our new guests and sponsors and promote any other events in the region we think would be of interest to our group.

Please come ready to meet others and share about your current project and find out about other people building exciting things in our area.

P.S. The event is open to everyone as a part of our community but, I will caution that sales reps and networking marketers tend to find their conversations short and unproductive. We ask you to respect the purpose is to meet and share, not to sell.

Data Meetup with Peter Myers

Details

Attention Data Geeks, we have a rare guest appearance! Don't miss the opportunity to hear a world-class international presenter. Peter Myers has over a decade's experience talking at industry conferences, and he is consistently admired as a highly insightful and articulate technologist.

This event is brought to you in part by our primary sponsor CSG Pro.

AGENDA FOR 2/20/19:

6:00 - 6:30PM: Greet and Eat (networking)

6:25 - 7:15PM: Welcome, Announcements, Sponsor introductions/talk,

7:15 - 8:30PM: Main Topic: "The 4 Modes of Power BI Desktop" by Peter Myers.

Topic Abstract: Peter describes and demonstrates the four Power BI Desktop modes. He will also provide guidance in helping you choose the appropriate mode for your project.

Power BI Desktop is a versatile tool that can be used for modeling and reporting. When a model already exists, the tool can be used to simply develop a report which sources the model. However, when a model is required, it provides three development choices: Import, DirectQuery and Composite (in preview).

Speaker Bio: Peter Myers comes to us all the way from Melbourne, Australia. He is a consultant, trainer, and presenter who has worked with Microsoft database and development products since 1997. Today Peter specializes in all Microsoft Business Intelligence products and also authors training course content for Microsoft products and services. He has a broad business background supported by a bachelor’s degree in applied economics and accounting, which he extends with extensive experience backed by current MCSE certifications. He has been a Data Platform MVP since 2007.

THANKS TO OUR MEETUP SPONSORS:
CSG Pro and Portland Power BI User Group (https://www.csgpro.com/ & https://www.pbiusergroup.com/Portland)
Oregon SQL (https://www.oregonsql.org)
Data Geek User Group (https://www.meetup.com/Data-Geek-User-Group-Vancouver-WA/)
